Why Trying Harder Might Be the Reason You’re Stuck
Why Trying Harder Might Be the Reason You’re Stuck
Are you doing everything right—tracking your food, hitting the gym, taking all the right supplements—yet still not seeing results?
You’re not alone. Every week, I talk to people who are putting in massive effort for their health and getting very little in return. And here’s the truth that surprises most of them:
Sometimes, trying harder is the reason you’re stuck.
The Redbud Tree Lesson: A Health Metaphor You’ll Never Forget
I live on 19 wooded acres in the hills, and every spring, redbud trees bloom all around me. They’re stunning, vibrant, and thrive naturally here.
But in my own yard? Not many.
So I decided I wanted my own redbud forest. I researched endlessly—saplings vs. seeds, irrigation systems, deer protection, soil prep. I planned every detail for months.
One day, while clearing space with my weed eater, I kept running into stubborn little plants with thicker trunks. I’d been cutting them down for years.
Curious, I snapped a photo, looked it up…
They were redbud trees.
I had been mowing down the exact thing I wanted—hundreds of them—for five years.
When I finally recognized them, I counted over 300 already growing on my property. My abundance had been there the whole time… I just didn’t see it because it didn’t look how I expected.
How This Happens With Your Health
You might be doing the same thing with your body.
When you overtrain, over-restrict calories, over-supplement, or overcomplicate your health plan, you can actually sabotage your results.
The body is designed to heal itself. Right now, your immune system is making antibodies to things you encountered today. If you cut your skin, it immediately begins repairing the damage.
But healing can’t happen if you’re constantly “mowing it down” with stress, unsustainable routines, or excessive effort.
Stress and Weight Loss: Why More Isn’t Always Better
In my work, I see this most often with weight loss. People push so hard—working out more, eating less, taking more supplements—that the stress itself keeps the body from releasing fat.
The same is true for anxiety. The more “must-have” rituals you add to feel okay, the more anxious you get when something throws them off.
Example: my sister once traveled with boxes of her own food, supplements, blender, and kitchen tools so she could “stay on track.” When she forgot one blender part, her plan collapsed, her stress skyrocketed, and her day was ruined.
Sometimes, your healthy habits are causing more harm than good.
Start With Data, Then Fix the Patterns
This is why in my Bio-Recode program, we always start with your lab work.
Because yes—you are physical, mental, and spiritual—but if your physiology is off, fixing the rest becomes much harder.
Once the physical is addressed, we look at the mental programming and daily habits that have been silently running the show—and keeping you stuck.
Like me with my redbuds, you can be looking right at the thing you want and not even recognize it.
Why Moderation Wins
Moderation isn’t sexy. It’s not the latest viral hack or “miracle” supplement. But it’s where I see the biggest, most lasting results.
If you’ve been trying harder for months—or years—and still aren’t where you want to be, maybe it’s time to stop pushing and start noticing.
Your health is your birthright. Stop mowing down the redbuds in your life.
Key Takeaways
Stop overtraining — more isn’t always better for fat loss.
Beware of over-supplementation — it can stress the body and hinder results.
Moderation works — especially for long-term health and weight management.
Start with lab testing to get clear data on what your body actually needs.
