Why Your Health Journey Feels Stuck—And How to Fix It

Welcome to The Longevity Lab! I’m Dr. Jae Hitson, and today, we’re going to dive deep into something that so many of you need to hear—but that marketing gurus and podcast strategists tell me I shouldn’t be saying.

They tell me that you, my audience, want short, pithy, fun facts and simple lists. That you don’t have the time or attention span for real education. That all you want is a magic pill, a five-step shortcut to perfect health.

I disagree.

Because I know that many of you have been through it all. You’ve bought the supplements that are now gathering dust in your pantry. You’ve purchased the gym equipment that’s sitting unused. You’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, and yet, you’re still struggling.

The last thing you need is one more piece of advice thrown onto the never-ending pile. Instead, you need clarity. You need to cut through the noise and understand what actually works.

1. Get Specific About Your Goals

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is constantly shifting their health goals. Today, you want to lose weight. Tomorrow, you want more energy. Next week, you’re on a new detox.

Without a clear focus, you can’t build momentum. Write your goals down. If you want more energy, specify when you need it most. Do you need energy after 2 p.m.? Do you want to wake up feeling refreshed? Nail it down so that when you achieve it, you recognize the progress.

A real example: I worked with a woman who was severely underweight. We created a plan to help her gain healthy weight, and over six months, she did just that. But then she came to me frustrated—her clothes didn’t fit the same. She had forgotten that this was the goal in the first place!

Write it down. Track it. And stop shifting your goalposts.

2. Find the Right Tools (and the Right Professionals)

Not all professionals are created equal. If you go to a medical doctor for nutrition advice, understand that their expertise is in medicine, not food. If you want to understand drug interactions, don’t ask a holistic health provider—that’s what pharmacists and MDs are for.

Think of it like walking into a workshop. A conventional doctor has two tools: medication and surgery. Holistic health, on the other hand, is like walking into Home Depot—there are endless tools, and without guidance, it’s overwhelming. That’s why Good Doctors exists—to help you navigate this space and find the right tool for your health goals.

One of the best tools? Blood work.

3. Use Testing to Make Informed Decisions

Your body isn’t a guessing game. Instead of trying every new supplement or diet trend, start with data. Blood testing gives you a powerful snapshot of your health at a cost-effective price.

If you’ve had routine blood work done at your annual physical but didn’t gain any real insight, it’s because standard tests are often too basic. You need comprehensive panels and a professional who understands the difference between normal and optimal. That’s where functional medicine and personalized health strategies make all the difference.

4. Give Your Body Time to Heal

We live in a world that expects instant results. You’ve had a health issue for years, maybe decades, but if a solution doesn’t work within three days, you’re onto the next thing. Healing doesn’t work that way.

Your body operates in 90-day cycles. That’s why I tell my patients: commit to a plan for at least three months. If you have no improvement in six weeks, reassess—but don’t give up after three days.

If you know you get easily distracted or overwhelmed by too much information, limit your sources. Stick with one trusted expert and follow through on a plan before jumping to something new.

The Bottom Line: Health Requires Commitment, Not More Stuff

Before you buy another supplement or sign up for another gym membership, take a step back and ask yourself:

  • Have I clearly defined what I want to achieve?

  • Am I working with the right professionals for my goals?

  • Have I used testing to identify what my body actually needs?

  • Have I given my current plan enough time to work?

Your body is designed to heal itself—it just needs the right resources and time. Stop chasing the next quick fix and start building sustainable health.

If you need guidance, Good Doctors is here to help. Let’s clear the confusion and get you on the right path.
